This series presents opportunities for providers to connect with Hawaiian values and perspectives on Mauli Ola, optimal health, values that are shared across all cultures that today have been replaced with self-reliance. When disaster strikes, how do we prepare to respond in ways that protect and enhance social cohesion?

This series will provide Cultural Training to support providers in recognizing signs and symptoms of substance use disorder and serious mental illness that may result from surviving a natural disaster.

Our multimedia approach is intended to guide our audience through the process of opening the mind. Beginning with ʻike Hawaiʻi, we invite you to see new perspectives on truth and learn about Hawaiian science. Through kiʻi (image) and pule (chant) from both Hawaiʻi and Chuuk we hope that you will practice lending your voice to healing so that it is felt in your own naʻau (gut). Following this protocol we want you to feel safe to connect with the stories of our Community Navigators that bring joy as well as pain. In the knowledge of our guest speakers, we hope you will experience the depth of healing their practices have to offer and that you stay on to talk through what you have experienced in the walaau (debrief). We recognize that this takes courage and we look forward to hearing your feedback.
