Evidence Synthesis Tags (1-6):
The purpose of this evidence synthesis is to provide context regarding the types of natural disasters common to the Hawaiian islands as well as the cultural frames that govern community response. This review was conducted to give a broader perspective on disaster response for military and tourism populations in terms of resources needed to support the entire state population during a disaster.

- Tag: Proclamations: The focus of this evidence synthesis is to provide context for the scope and meaning of emergency proclamations in the state of Hawaiʻi, specific to Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander health beliefs and worldviews. Consistent with the funding guidelines of the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division (ADAD) at the Department of Health (DOH), weather-focused, federal and state emergency proclamations declared between January 1st, 2018 and October 21st, 2021 are presented. Federal and state definitions related to disaster response are provided alongside an annotated bibliography of selected cultural health frameworks as a foundation for understanding a case study from Sustʻāinable Molokaʻi and their community-driven crisis management at the onset of the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) pandemic in 2020.
- Social Theories (Tag: Theories): This literature review was conducted to explore noted research theories and frameworks that could be applied and utilized to disaster response preparedness in relation to Native Hawaiian and Polynesian cultures. And our lab is continually working towards understanding social theories to be inclusive of the greater Oceania cultures.
- Indigenous Frameworks (Tag: Frameworks): Indigenous Frameworks: The purpose of this approach is to achieve cultural relevance in social and cultural determinants of behavioral health specific to islanders.
- COFA Health (Tag: COFA): This literature review was conducted to assess challenges faced by Compact of Free Association (COFA) migrants (citizens from the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, and the Republic of Palau) and the associated history relating to healthcare access.
- Historical Context (Tag: History): The primary purpose of this review is to equip professionals with a deeper understanding of mauli ola to support the development and implementation of strategies for the inclusion of Native Hawaiian cultural intervention treatment programs, wellness plans, and holistic living systems of care, including those related to disaster response and preparedness. The secondary purpose is to provide context for the processes engaged by the Māpuna Lab throughout the State Disaster Response ʻUlu DRS Cultural Trainings.
